One of my favourite things about being a photographer in Daventry is meeting people who use their passion to give back. For the last year I have had the honour of capturing Ruby United, a truly inspiring charity football team. Over the last year I've seen first hand the dedication this team has, not just to the game of football, but to the charities they support every year.
This group of lads doesn't just play for the win; they play for a cause, raising money for different charities every single year. Capturing their matches is about more than just sport—it’s about documenting a community coming together to make a difference. My cinematic, storytelling style is perfect for this, as it highlights the heart and grit behind every goal and every pound raised.
Turning Passion into Purpose
Founded in memory of their dear friend, Rebelo Costa, Ruby United has been organising charity matches across the UK since 2021. This completely self-funded team doesn't just play for the win; they play to make a difference. Over the years, they have raised significant funds for various causes, and 2026 is set to be their biggest year yet, with a stadium game in Milton Keynes and a tournament in Dublin on the horizon.
Supporting Cynthia Spencer Hospice
This year, I am proud to document their journey as they raise money for Cynthia Spencer Hospice, a charity that provides incredible care and support to those who need it most. Every goal scored and every pound raised helps honor Rebelo’s memory and supports vital local services.
Over £9000 Raised for Charity
Since their journey began in 2021, Ruby United has raised over £9000 for various charities across the UK. This incredible total is a testament to the hard work of the players and the generosity of the community. From local hospice care to national causes, every match they play contributes to this growing legacy of giving back. Seeing this total climb firsthand since I joined the team in 2025 has been one of the most rewarding parts of my career.
A Cinematic Tribute
Because this story is about grit and heart, I use a cinematic, moody storytelling style for their matches. By enhancing earthy browns and beiges, I keep the focus on the players and the raw emotion of the game rather than the bright green of the grass. It’s a gritty, "documentary" look that I feel truly reflects the team's dedication and the importance of their mission.
I am so proud to be a part of this journey and to serve the community across Daventry, Corby, and Northamptonshire.
